Pentimento – Afternoon Prelude to a Nocturne

40×30 inches, acrylic on canvas

If home is heaven indeed, this pentimento is it. This is all about one of the family farms in upstate New York that had seven bedrooms with real feather mattresses and sleigh beds. And a music room with huge gilt framed ancestral photographic portraits, a rosewood square piano, and a reed pump organ. And a gigantic wood stove in the kitchen as well. It was in a secluded magical valley with an orchard, cows and a stream. The wallpaper was French, from the early 1900’s.  While this is not that farm, but a compilation of other houses I have lived in and dreamed of, I can smell the cows and hear the stream when I look at this painting. The furnishings are from the house in Waterloo, NY that were moved to Florida, and the boxwood and urn with topiary is outside the studio in Tampa. It is MY forever home!
