The Stiltons Camp Out in Maine

48×36 inches, acrylic on canvas

This is a testament to the many years spent at the farm in Maine, that had been our family summer home from somewhere after the Civil War. We loved it dearly, but spending so much time outdoors in the White Mountains, Kennebunkport and Ogunquit gave the feeling of “camping out.” I always had an awareness that it was a real farm in the past, with cows and chickens and without electricity and running water (post World War II). A touchstone for my romantic transcendental perception of New England that I will never forget.
